Your prayers have been answered, True Believers! The newest (and possibly final) official trailer for Avengers: Infinity War is here! We’ve got possible flashbacks, fun character interactions, and made-up names to talk about. So, let’s get to it!
It’s time for the full recap of the amazing new Avengers trailer. But, first off, let’s just make sure to specify all of the dialogue that is in the new trailer.
GAMORA: The entire time I knew him, he only ever had one goal — to wipe out half the universe. If he gets all the infinity stones, he can do it with the snap of his fingers. Just like that.
TONY STARK: Tell me his name again.
GAMORA: Thanos.
TONY STARK: We’ve got one advantage — he’s coming to us. We have what Thanos wants, so that’s what we’ll use.
PETER QUILL: Let’s talk about this plan of yours. I think it’s good, except it sucks. So let me do the plan and that way it might be really good.
TONY STARK: Wow.
UNKNOWN: The end is near?
THANOS: When I’m done, half of humanity will still exist. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be. I hope they remember you.
PETER PARKER: I’m Peter, by the way.
DR. STEPHEN STRANGE: Dr. Strange.
PETER PARKER: Oh, we’re using our made-up names, then I am Spider-Man.
I’m not quite sure who says the ‘the end is near-line,’ but I’m thinking it might be either Corvus Glaive, Cull Obsidian, or Ebony Maw, the latter of which I believe is the one seen torturing Dr. Strange. If you have a different theory, feel free to point it out in the comments below. I should also note that I don’t at all believe Gamora is speaking to Tony Stark, which the trailer suggests. It looks like Gamora is in space, and I am thinking that she is probably filling Thor in on who Thanos is. As for Tony Stark? Based on the previous trailer for the film, Stark is probably talking to Hulk or Dr. Strange — most likely the former of the two.
Tony Stark’s plan is pretty simple. Their advantage is that they have what he needs. One of the Infinity Stones is in Vision’s forehead, and one of the other ones is in Dr. Strange’s possession. Thanos needs the eye of Agamotto.
Here we see Captain America, War Machine, Black Widow, Bruce Banner, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and Vision arriving in Wakanda. They need the help of Black Panther and the Dora Milaje to protect the infinity stone in Vision’s forehead, it seems.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are with Tony Stark, however. And seeing Quill and co. interact with Stark is just delightful. Seeing as Dr. Strange has been seen with Stark in a previous trailer, I’m thinking this group is probably defending (or trying to retrieve) the Sorcerer Supreme.
Peter just looks happy to be a part of the Avengers. He tried so desperately to become one of the guys in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and now he is finally here. I think he’s going to see his Avengers mentor (yup, Tony Stark) die in this film, though.
It seems like we’re getting flashbacks in this film. This scene looks like it might depict how Thanos ‘adopted’ Gamora once upon a time. People forget how this is actually also a story of revenge for Gamora, Drax, and Nebula.
Here we see Thanos’ Black Order with Loki. Here is how I am predicting this to play out: the Black Order and Thanos attack the Asgardian ship and kill most, if not all, of the individuals on board. Loki, of course, has the Tesseract, and he will probably be told to hand it over, or else they will kill Thor. I’m thinking that Loki will hand it over — one final moment of heroism from the former villain — before Thor will be forced to see his brother die in front of him.
Now this was a shocking image that I haven’t stopped thinking about since I first saw the trailer. Dr. Strange is clearly being tortured in some way, shape, or form. Perhaps he has hidden the eye of Agamotto, but, in any case, Ebony Maw is torturing the Sorcerer Supreme for information.
So, this is interesting. Steve Rogers, on his own, fighting Thanos. The giant is clearly impressed and surprised by the brave and strong Captain. Of course, Thanos has more than one hand, so Rogers is in trouble. Rogers and Stark are both in precarious situations in these trailers. I am thinking that at least one of the two will die in this film.
If Rogers dies in this film, we are probably going to see T’Challa, or someone else, tell either Winter Soldier or Falcon that Cap would’ve wanted them to have his shield, thus setting up a new hero to take up the mantle as Captain America.
This is a really great trailer, and the perfect trailer to release just as the tickets go on sale. You feel like you have to see this film. This is an event. This is the culmination of three major Marvel phases. Stark, Strange, Loki, Thor, and Rogers are all in danger here, and people really love these characters. This film could break hearts.
It is very interesting that neither Ant-Man nor Hawkeye are seen in the trailer or on the poster. I don’t really have an answer as to why they aren’t, but I’m sure they are in the film at some point.
