MMXVII – This is 2017

Goodbye 2016 and hello there 2017! Another year, another update to the release schedule on I’m Jeffrey Rex. Unlike 2016, there will be no changes to the types of reviews I’m doing in 2017, but at the end of this post I will be revealing my movie-related New Year’s Resolution.

Scheduled Shows

  • Dagobah Day: First Monday of every month. However, this January Dagobah Day will be released on the 3rd of January (First Tuesday of the month).
  • Top Ten Tuesday: Every Tuesday.
  • Box Office Predictions: First Wednesday of every month. May get a new look soon. Today, however, you’re also getting a special 2017 preview.
  • Thespians & Filmmakers: Going on hiatus. Will return.
  • Marvelous Monday: To be announced soon. May get a new look.

Now, as you may have noticed Detective Comics Saturday and Testing Television have both been dropped from the planned schedule. That doesn’t mean they won’t be returning, but it does mean they won’t be written every month.

2016 – Still to come:

  • 2016 IJR Awards: Film Nominations and Winners AnnouncementQ1 2017
  • Top Films: My Top Ten Films of 2016Q1 2017

As you may have noticed, I’m not quite done with 2016 yet. I feel like I still need to watch, like, a handful more 2016 films before I’m ready: including Scorsese’s Silence, Jenkins’ Moonlight, and Chazelle’s La La Land.

And now, to my New Year’s Resolution… It’s simple really. I often say that Martin Scorsese is my favorite filmmaker of all-time. But I have to admit that I still have a lot of films in his filmography that I haven’t seen yet.

So, in 2017 I want to watch all of them (including some of his more well-regarded documentaries), and then, at some point (though maybe not in 2017), I want to rank his feature films.

Is it going to take a long time? Definitely. Will I publish reviews of some of the films? Oh yeah. Is it going to be fun? Of course. Seeing as it is a New Year’s resolution, though, is there a chance that I might not uphold the resolution? Sure.

What are you looking forward to in 2017? Sound off in the comments.

– Jeffrey Rex
