Just in time for Monday Night, I’ve decided to write a little bit about everyone’s favorite breaker of the fourth wall – Wade Wilson. The unstable Merc With a Mouth had his cinematic debut in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, an X-Men spinoff that was poorly received by critics and fans alike.
What did work in that film, however, was Ryan Reynolds. Chosen to star as Wade Wilson was the aforementioned Canadian superhero-on-lease, Ryan Reynolds. Yes, he was the best part of Green Lantern (2011), and yes he was the best part of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
So, yeah, I really love Reynolds – a great actor, and he’s so darn funny. Actually, I was gitty to hear that he was to play Wade Wilson – only to be let down in 2009. This guy desperately needs a blockbuster hit – and if the first promo pic is anything to go by, Deadpool is going to be hilarious.
The film is scheduled to be released in under a year, and if you’re not excited then you haven’t seen the leaked test footage. Go watch it, this post will still be here when you’re done.
Wade Wilson is hilariously unfit for the underage part of the superhero audience, but just what we need to slow down the inevitable bubble burst.
The film is to be directed by first-time feature film director Tim Miller, who, thankfully, is familiar with the cinematic superhero adventures. Ryan Reynolds is, of course, the titular character – and Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, Gina Carano, and T.J. Miller will be sharing the screen with him.
Please be excited for Deadpool!
