REVIEW: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – “Kimmy Kisses a Boy!”

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Netflix - Unbreakable Kimmy SchmidtThe following is a review of the fifth episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Expect some spoilers in the review.

Troll the respawn, Jeremy! – the fifth episode was instantly quotable, and featured some great hidden gems of comedy. In what was a surprisingly strong episode for all the main characters, drama and plot-movement were the key ingredients to a fun 23 minutes.

Hey, we finally got the yellow-hat scene! A favorite of mine from the trailer. The way it evolved was different, but I liked how they didn’t just throw that construction worker away from the get-go.

So, I’ve mentioned Krakowski, Kemper or Burgess a lot in my reviews – but I’ve failed to mention Carol Kane – playing Lillian the landlady. I absolutely loved her little mirror-joke.

Kimmy’s little adventure into romance was interesting, if at times oddly weird on the part of Charles, and when the episode was to conclude the ‘love you’ discussion became something more than just a classic sitcom scenario. The gamer twist was genius.

I am really starting to like the show a lot, and this episode really solidified its place through hilarious dialogue. Going back to school will be interesting for the show, and oddly fitting – even if it borrows some elements from Billy Madison. Oh, and by the way, how great was Kimmy’s Breakfast Club-scene?
