Marvel’s Daredevil is a new Netflix show from the same universe as the Avengers films. Expect spoilers for every review this season, though I’m going to try to limit spoilery details. “In the Blood” is the fourth episode of the first season, and in it we see just what guy this ‘Wilson Fisk’ is.
Don’t mess with Wilson’s dates. Noted. This episode was stellar in portraying Wilson Fisk as more than just the Kingpin. He is a complicated individual, he is an inspired individual, and he is a romantic, chivalrous man. In more ways than one, this episode was about the significant other, and the lengths you’ll go to protect and keep them.
Fisk straight up tortured and murdered that guy – not because his guys were beaten by Daredevil, mind you; simply because of how he embarrassed Fisk in the restaurant. Meanwhile, Matt Murdock dropped everything and raced to save Claire Temple.
Do note that Claire once again called Matt ‘Mike’, and this time he called it out. Hopefully, we’ll see what that means in the coming episodes. I am a bit shocked that Karen Page hasn’t been the love interest of Matt Murdock, but that Temple has been.
Once again I thought the B-plot was problematic. Urich and Page didn’t really interest me in this episode, but hopefully they’ll start to as they go deeper and deeper into this case.
The episode opened with a lot of backstory to the Russian group, and I didn’t really think that stellar flashback meant anything to the greater plot of the episode – which is to say that it didn’t make these guys terrifying at all.
B+
