When I first heard of this Netflix title, I was instantly interested. Here was a crime drama based on a true story from Danish director Janus Metz Pedersen. Pedersen’s strong work in television shows — episodes of True Detective, ZeroZeroZero, and Andor — has made him a director whose career I’m really interested in following. On top of that, this project featured a strong cast, including screen star Russell Crowe and Jacob Tremblay, the child actor from Room, Good Boys, and Doctor Sleep, who is now trying to prove himself again as an actor in his late teens. I was hoping for something akin to Netflix’s Mindhunter, but this is, unfortunately, quite far from the quality of that iconic two-season series. Unabomber is the kind of film that is trying to be too many things at once, while not being particularly good at any of those things.
