A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – Season One (2026) | TV REVIEW

The internet has not been kind to the world of A Song of Ice and Fire in recent years. The long wait for new novels has frustrated fans all over the world, as Game of Thrones eventually outpaced the George R. R. Martin books they were adapting and thus told an ending to the story before the creator did. Then that ending got so much criticism from critics and fans alike — in my review of the final season, I wrote that the show limped across the finish line — that it has tarnished the memory of that iconic fantasy series, despite it still being one of the biggest achievements of television entertainment this century. Then there’s the case of House of the Dragon, the spin-off show, which got off to a strong start, but which also threw away a lot of the goodwill due to how unsatisfyingly the second season concluded. Although I knew how popular the Tales of Dunk and Egg stories from George R. R. Martin were to book readers, I didn’t sense a lot of optimism from the TV-only audience when an adaptation of them was announced as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Then I saw the, in some way, quite different new Game of Thrones spin-off (compared to the other shows) a few months ago, and I was delighted. Here was a show that had all the ingredients needed for the kind of storytelling that could revive the brand. It’s one of the best new shows I’ve seen thus far this year.

REVIEW: House of the Dragon – Season One (2022)

Series Created by Ryan Condal & George R. R. Martin.

If I am being totally honest, I didn’t really miss Game of Thrones. Its final season made some missteps that soured me on it to an extent that I didn’t really think much of the spin-offs in development. Still, out of this idea that I like to at least try to complete what I’m following along with, I gave it a go (also because I quite liked the cast). And I am happy to report that it didn’t take long to hook me. The first season of House of the Dragon is Game of Thrones at its very best. It is an outstanding first season of television that well and truly won me back.

REVIEW: Game of Thrones – Season Seven (2017)

The following is a review of the seventh season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Expect full spoilers for the show in this review.

At the end of the sixth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, the show’s two most celebrated heroes moved into position to take on the final sets of challenges for them in this epic series. Jon Snow became the King in the North, and we all learned his true identity. Meanwhile, Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons, was finally on her way to Westeros with her mighty dragons and her vast armies. Continue reading “REVIEW: Game of Thrones – Season Seven (2017)”

REVIEW: Game of Thrones – Season Six (2016)

Game of Thrones reviewed

The following is a review of the sixth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Expect spoilers for the show in this review.

This is the first time that I am ever reviewing a season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, but I’ve been following the show since the beginning. I hadn’t read any of the books prior to the first season, but I have since read the first book in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire-series of novels.

The fact that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was in the show, was what made me interested in the show, and his character is still one of my favorites. The first season was excellent, and every season has just been so good. Then the fifth season aired, and a lot of people were underwhelmed. This time around though, with the sixth season of Game of Thrones, HBO have given us one of the most outstanding fantasy seasons that we have ever seen.  Continue reading “REVIEW: Game of Thrones – Season Six (2016)”
