Who Should Be the Next James Bond?

You don’t find many movie characters that are as iconic as James Bond. At this point, the torch has been passed from actor to actor and reboot to reboot for several generations, and the character has been redefined more than once. After Cary Joji Fukunaga’s No Time To Die, Daniel Craig has relinquished the role and is passing it on after having been the longest-tenured actor in the role (even though he doesn’t have the most films under his belt).

But what comes next? There are so many questions right now. Will the character’s next adventures take place today? Will they be standalone adventures? Will it even be the same character? And, hey, who should actually be the next James Bond? So, please do join me in this article as I try to answer some of those questions, or, at the very least, give my opinions on the matter. I have thoughts.

The Devil’s Mouth (2026) | REVIEW

Directed by Jeff Wadlow (True Memoirs of an International Assassin) — Screenplay by Aja Gabel and Myung Joh Wesner.

Jeff Wadlow’s The Devil’s Mouth follows a group of friends on vacation in Thailand. Two of the friends, Sara (played by Kathryn Newton) and Max (played by Lana Condor), initially struggle to see eye to eye after the former is left behind in the ocean, while the rest of the group partied and sped off without realizing where she was. Although they did eventually come back for her, the encounter left Sara badly damaged after coming into contact with a school of jellyfish. Sara feels that Max won’t take responsibility for anything, and yet still insists on controlling what to do, so while they try to get over the aforementioned incident, those issues always sit just beneath the surface. When, one day, they decide to tour the titular underwater cave system, chaos ensues as a trapped bull shark attacks and kills their guides. Now, the group must work together if they want to all make it out alive.

The Sheep Detectives (2026) | REVIEW

Directed by Kyle Balda — Screenplay by Craig Mazin.

Based on the German novel Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann, Kyle Balda’s The Sheep Detectives follows a flock of sheep living peacefully near the English village of Denbrook. Every night, their beloved shepherd, George Hardy (played by Hugh Jackman), reads them murder mystery novels that, unbeknownst to George, they’re hooked on. When one night, the sheep find George lifeless outside his trailer, they are devastated and soon realize that perhaps George was actually murdered. Lily (voiced by Julia Louis-Dreyfus), an intelligent sheep who knows murder mysteries particularly well, teams up with the recluse black sheep Sebastian (voiced by Bryan Cranston) — but also Mopple (voiced by Chris O’Dowd), a sheep that, unlike most of the flock, is unable to forget things whenever he feels like it — in an effort to help steer the law enforcement investigation, led by clumsy and inexperienced officer Tim Derry (played by Nicholas Braun), in the right direction.
