NORTH AMERICAN OPENING WEEKEND PREDICTIONS:
- Logan – 20th Century Fox – March 3rd, 2017 – $80 million
- Kong: Skull Island – Warner Bros. – March 10th, 2017 – $45 million
- Beauty and the Beast – Disney – March 17th, 2017 – $135 million
- Power Rangers – Lionsgate – March 24th, 2017 – $27 million
- Ghost in the Shell – Paramount – March 31st, 2017 – $42 million
- Rings – Paramount – February 3rd, 2017 – $13 (+2) million
- Fifty Shades Darker – Universal – February 10th, 2017 – $46 (+1) million
- John Wick: Chapter Two – Lionsgate / Summit – February 10th, 2017 – $30 (+8) million
- The LEGO Batman Movie – Warner Bros. – February 10th, 2017 – $53 (-16) million
As I expected, Fifty Shades Darker opened to much less than the first film did. The disappointing new film in the Ring film series opened about as low as I thought it would. No real surprise here with these two films.
John Wick: Chapter Two opened against both The LEGO Batman Movie and Fifty Shades Darker, and it, unsurprisingly, finished third. Still, that is actually a pretty terrific opening weekend, seeing as the first film only opened to $14 million.
Finally, The LEGO Batman Movie fell pretty far from my prediction and The LEGO Movie‘s opening weekend. Still, as it is a spin-off film, one could argue that this is actually a fantastic opening weekend nonetheless.
