  • Fifty Shades Darker – Universal – February 10th, 2017 – $45 million

Box Office Report

  • Underworld: Blood Wars – Sony / Screen Gems – January 6th, 2017 – $13 (-3) million
  • Split – Universal – January 20th, 2017 – $40 (+22) million
  • xXx: The Return of Xander Cage – Paramount – January 20th, 2017 – $20 (-5) million
  • Resident Evil: The Final Chapter – Sony / Screen Gems – January 27th, 2017 – $22 (-9) million

Underworld did a little bit worse than I thought it would, it didn’t get particularly close to Rogue One, which was in its fourth week at the box office. xXx also underperformed a little bit. I never really understood why people were excited for that film, if I’m being honest.

Resident Evil also underperformed in the U.S., but it’s apparently doing pretty well outside of America. Split is the real success story. It almost made twice as much as I had predicted it would. In fact, Split‘s second weekend was even bigger than I thought its first weekend would be.
