Last weekend’s top four was surprisingly predictable, with Everest‘s IMAX opening acting as the only real ‘shock’. This week Everest has its wide release, and it should have a decent weekend. Hotel Transylvania 2 opens in North American theaters this weekend – will it outperform last weekend’s new entries?
LAST WEEKEND’S NUMBERS
- Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (1st Wknd) – $30.3m
- Black Mass (1st Wknd) – $22.6m
- The Visit – $11.5m
- The Perfect Guy – $9.7m
- Everest (1st Wknd – Limited to IMAX) – $7.2m
I was so close to a perfect top five prediction last weekend, but Everest managed to knock me out – while Captive severely underperformed. But we need to talk about Maze Runner. Scorch Trials made less than the original film – and that, to be perfectly honest, is quite unexpected.
WEEKEND PREDICTIONS
- Hotel Transylvania 2 (1st Wknd) – $33m
- The Intern (1st Wknd) – $18m
- Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials – $16m
- Everest (1st Wknd – Wide) – $16m
- Black Mass – $12m
Hotel Transylvania made $42m in its opening weekend, but I’m not sure the sequel will be quite as strong at the box office – add to that the fact that the last big Adam Sandler-film didn’t do too well. Everest goes wide this weekend, and it should do very well – however, it is still to fight with Black Mass and The Intern for somewhat similar audience-members. Scorch Trials should drop close to 50%.
What do you predict for this weekend’s North American box office numbers? Am I way off? Sound off in the comments.
